Child Funeral Charity

The Child Funeral Charity attempts to help bereft parents who do not qualify for the government’s funeral social fund. They accept an application for financial help from professionals who have knowledge of the bereaved family and their financial circumstances e.g. G.P, funeral directors, midwives, bereavement services, or any other professional who are closely linked to the family and their loss.

Society of Allied and Independent Funeral Directors (SAIF)

SAIF represent the smaller independent privately owned firms. You can search for a funeral director in your area on their website. This will allow you to put in your postcode, enabling you to view all the funeral directors close by.


Each funeral director will work 7 days a week. However if you wish to speak to the office staff; you can contact them Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm on: 0845 230 6777 (local number) or 01279 726 777.


National Association of Funeral Directors (NAFD)

NAFD mostly represent the larger businesses; such as the Co-Operatives, who perform 85% of UK funerals. You can access their website. This will allow you to search for a funeral director in your area.

Child Bereavement UK

Child Bereavement UK acknowledge that parents will bond with their baby long before they are born, and therefore appreciate that parents may experience grief from the moment they know they are going to lose their baby.


They also understand that there is no right or indeed wrong way to grieve and that the pace is very much dictated by the individual, which is no different whether you are a child, adolescent, or adult.


This organisation supports both the parents and also all family members to rebuild their lives after the loss of a child.

This organisation offers emotional support for the whole family, whether you are a parent or help is needed for a sibling; Cruse is set up to support the whole family. They offer a free and confidential service.

Kent Based Humanist - Memory Lane Funeral Services

They have a website and also a Facebook page where you can find out more about their services, or you can contact them directly by phone. They will be able to answer any questions you may have. They conduct funerals in Kent and the surrounding area.

Government Services and Information on Stillbirth Registration

This website will give you further help and guidance on what your legal requirements are for the part of the UK you reside in. It provides a link so you will be able to find your nearest local authority register office.


They also provide useful links on your entitlements as parents for maternity and paternity leave from work, and indeed what your financial entitlements are as well. They provide guidance on funeral payment eligibility for your baby’s funeral if you are on low income, benefits or tax credits.

The Compassionate Friends

This organisation supports bereaved parents and their families. They have a help and support line that is always answered by a parent who has been previously bereft. Therefore, help is always at hand. Their telephone lines are open during the day from 10am – 4pm, then in the evening from 7pm – 10pm. They are simply there to listen if you need someone to talk to, or indeed they can offer to put you in touch with a local group that can support you. Their lines are open all year round.
